Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms follows, with deep sorrow and strong condemnation, the ongoing crimes committed by U.S. warplanes against civilians in the Republic of Yemen. These attacks continue to claim the lives of innocent victims and cause extensive destruction to residential areas and civilian infrastructure.
The organization extends its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the families of the martyrs who lost their lives in these brutal airstrikes. We pray for mercy for the victims, a swift recovery for the wounded, and reaffirm our full solidarity with their families. We also call for urgent relief and support for those affected.
The U.S. airstrike on Sunday evening targeting a home in the Sha’ab al-Hafa area of the Sha'oub district in the capital Sana’a, which resulted in the martyrdom of four civilians—including two women—and the injury of 23 others, constitutes a horrific crime and a blatant violation of all humanitarian and legal norms. It reflects a clear disregard for innocent lives and contempt for international conventions.
The organization also strongly condemns the earlier airstrike that targeted a solar energy shop in the Hafsain area of Sa’ada Governorate, which led to the death of two civilians and the injury of nine others, as part of a systematic pattern of targeting civilian infrastructure and essential services.
Insan Organization stresses that these crimes represent a flagrant violation of Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (1998), which classifies the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian objects in international armed conflicts as a war crime punishable under international law.
The organization further reminds that Article 13 of Protocol II Additional to the Geneva Conventions emphasizes the protection of civilian populations from attacks and strictly prohibits exposing them to hostilities.
Accordingly, Insan Organization calls on the international community, the UN Security Council, and human rights organizations to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, take urgent steps to stop these crimes, ensure accountability for the perpetrators, and work to protect the Yemeni people from the systematic violations they continue to endure.
