In a grave violation of international humanitarian law, Israel carried out an airstrike targeting the last remaining aircraft of Yemen Airways on Wednesday morning 28 May 2025, resulting in a new tragedy for the Yemeni people both at home and abroad.
The Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms strongly condemns this Israeli aggression and affirms that this crime is part of a series of unjustified violations lacking any legitimate military necessity. Less than a month ago, Israeli strikes targeted three civilian aircraft at Sana'a International Airport, causing the total destruction of the airport’s infrastructure.
Despite the extent of the devastation, the authorities in Sana'a, in recognition of the suffering of Yemenis both inside and outside the country, promptly initiated the reconstruction of the airport within a matter of days. This swift action rekindled hope among Yemenis for the return of those stranded abroad and allowed patients, pilgrims, students, and others to resume vital travel.
However, this hope was short-lived, as Israeli warplanes once again returned to exacerbate the suffering of tens of thousands of Yemenis stranded abroad and deepen the isolation of those living inside the country.
Insan calls on the international community—including human rights organizations and governments that claim to uphold democracy and human rights—to condemn Israel’s crimes in Yemen, a country now being punished for its support of Gaza. It is the responsibility of the United Nations Security Council and the International Criminal Court to act to prevent acts of genocide, rather than remain silent or complicit.
