The undersigned
human rights networks and organizations condemn the Israeli aggression on Iran
at dawn on Friday, June 13, which targeted its nuclear, economic, civil,
military, and other facilities with the support and collusion of the United
States of America.
The Israeli
occupying state continues its aggression against Islamic Republic of Iran and
the countries of the region, committing grave violations of international law.
These violations include the crime of aggression, which constitutes a blatant
violation of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly Article 2,
Paragraph 2, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial
integrity or political independence of any state. these acts also contradict
the principles of customary international law that reinforce this fundamental
prohibition.
These hostile
acts constitute a continuing violation of the sovereignty of other states and
threaten both regional and international peace and security.
The lack of
accountability for such hostile acts, which constitute a persistent violation
of other states' sovereignty, seriously threatens regional and international
peace and security. In this regard, we note that the continuing effects of
forms of domination and conflicts left behind by colonialism over decades have
contributed to an environment that has ultimately weakened respect for
international law and severely hampered efforts to achieve justice and
international peace.
This
Israeli persistence in committing crimes of aggression, war, genocide, and
crimes against humanity would not have continued had it not been for the
silence of the international community and the failure of peoples to eliminate
the legacy of colonialism and demand an apology and compensation from the
colonial powers.
It should also
be recalled that targeting the vital interests of states, including energy
networks or nuclear facilities, constitutes a grave breach of international
humanitarian law, specifically the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva
Conventions of 1977, which provides special protection for dangerous facilities
such as dams and nuclear installations. Such targeting may amount to a war
crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
While we
condemn these grave violations and the systematic escalation of Israeli
aggression, as well as the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, we call
on the international community to take immediate and serious action in order
to:
- Immediate
ceasefire and an end to retaliatory measures.
-
Stop the Israeli aggression on Iran, Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria.
-
Forming an independent international investigative body to determine the losses
and damages caused by these attacks.
-
Demand the occupying state, and those who support it, to fully compensate the
affected parties and to rebuild what was destroyed by the Israeli aggression
and occupation in Iran, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
-
Implement of UN Security Council Resolution No. 487 of 1981, which stipulates
subjecting the Israeli nuclear program to inspection by the International
Atomic Energy Agency.
