Gaza Siege Claims Dozens of Lives from Starvation Amid Health System Collapse

International Interests | 24-07-2025

As the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip continues, the humanitarian crisis is worsening at an unprecedented scale. Hospitals have turned into overcrowded chambers filled with emaciated bodies of children and the elderly, weakened by hunger and exhaustion — a harrowing scene that demands immediate international intervention.

According to official medical sources, as of Tuesday, healthcare facilities in Gaza have recorded the deaths of 86 civilians due to acute malnutrition, including 76 children — a toll that highlights the scale of the catastrophe and exposes the grim reality of the starvation policy enforced by Israeli occupation authorities on the people of Gaza.

Thousands of residents — particularly children and the elderly — are suffering from severe shortages of food and essential medicines, as a result of the tightened Israeli blockade on border crossings and the obstruction of humanitarian aid.

Medical teams reported that some deaths occurred due to the complete lack of infant formula and therapeutic foods necessary to treat acute malnutrition.

International organizations have described the situation as a total humanitarian collapse, stressing that the systematic use of starvation constitutes a war crime under international law, specifically under Article 8 of the Rome Statute.

These organizations have called for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors, the immediate entry of food and medicine, and the launch of an international investigation into the violations committed against civilians.

They emphasized that the continued Israeli military aggression — including the targeting of relief facilities, farms, and food warehouses — is deepening the disaster and placing the international community before a serious ethical test.

In scenes that have become daily occurrences, hospitals receive children with dangerously low body weight, suffering from severe wasting, muteness, and loss of focus — while doctors work under immense pressure to save as many lives as possible with nearly non-existent resources.

Families of the victims carry pictures of their lost children in their arms, asking for nothing more than "daily bread... and the right to survive."

As cries echo through emergency rooms, international response remains absent, the siege continues, and hunger grows more merciless by the day.
