Intensified Israeli Airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah Port Raise Fears of Regional Escalation

International Interests | 17-09-2025

Israel continues to carry out attacks across the region without facing any real deterrent from the international community, amid concerns over the reaction of the United States—the main backer of the Israeli entity.

On the evening of September 16, 2025, Israel renewed its airstrikes on Hodeidah Port, one of the most vital economic resources for the Yemeni people, launching 12 air raids that targeted three of the port’s piers.

The Israeli Defense Minister declared that the attack aimed to ensure the continuation of the naval and aerial blockade on what he described as the Houthis (Ansar Allah), disregarding the fact that such escalation targets Yemenis as a whole, as the Houthi movement constitutes part of Yemen’s national fabric.

The Israeli official renewed his threats to continue bombings in order to cripple the port’s ability to unload goods that benefit nearly 30 million Yemenis.

These threats come despite the fact that Hodeidah Port is already subject to strict measures, with no ship allowed entry without thorough inspection by a United Nations team in Djibouti.

Israeli officials repeatedly allege that the port is used for arms smuggling by the Houthis—claims that experts view as an attempt to mislead public opinion and create a pretext for international powers opposed to the occupation’s schemes, including the so-called “Greater Israel” project, which the Israeli Prime Minister himself publicly revealed.

The ongoing Israeli threats risk destabilizing regional security so long as the United States provides unconditional support, dominating the UN Security Council and obstructing punitive measures against Israel under international law—despite blatant Israeli violations in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and even Qatar, one of Washington’s closest allies, which has not been spared Israeli aggression.

Regional indicators point to the possibility of sliding into a wider regional conflict if the international community continues to limit its response to mere condemnations without taking concrete steps to halt the crimes of “violation and extermination” perpetrated by Israel in the region.
