Insan Rights and Freedoms Organization has been closely monitoring the statement issued by the World Food Program (WFP) announcing its intention to reduce aid in Yemen by the end of September 2023 due to funding shortages.

This declaration is both concerning and alarming, as the right to food is a fundamental human right. Therefore, it is imperative for the international community to provide sufficient support to ensure the fulfillment of the needs of those suffering from hunger and food insecurity in Yemen, resulting from the conditions of war and the blockade imposed on the Yemeni people.

The reduction in aid will have significant economic repercussions on Yemen, given the ongoing blockade and the worsening humanitarian crisis. We stress the growing rates of unemployment and poverty in Yemen, as the ability to create employment opportunities and improve living standards is negatively affected. Aid contributes to supporting development programs and providing job opportunities.

Hereby, the Insan Organization for Rights and Freedoms  calls upon the World Food Program and the United Nations, in general, to collaborate with influential countries and global media outlets to raise awareness among donors and supporters about the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and its potentially catastrophic consequences, including the possibility of a famine that would be the first of its kind in the world, as announced by the United Nations, stating that Yemen is currently facing the worst humanitarian crisis globally.

The organization also appeals to the United Nations and donor entities to increase the allocated funding for Yemen to prevent any further exacerbation of the current humanitarian crisis due to food shortages and lack of income sources. Urgent calls are made to promptly fill the financial gap.
